Extragalactic Black!

Hello party people. I know I haven’t said much about all of the comics I’ve been working on (and I will soon!!), but hopefully the comedy stylings  of the new web-series Extragalactic Black will hold you over for now. It’s a show that I helped write, then sat around doing next to nothing while the amazing Will McGrath, James Perkins, and Gabrielle Vigil, as well as all the rest of the cast and crew worked like dogs to create. It’s a beautiful piece of space comedy!

Up next:  more news on both issues 4 and 5 of Plaid! As well twice a week updates on Bello Fortis starting in March! I’ll also be attending the Lubbock Comic Expo April 14-15, 2012. So if you are in the area, be sure to check it out!!

Plaid Issue 4 is coming!!

“WHAT?!?!? You mean to tell me that during all that time you were working on Bello Fortis, you’ve been able to come up with another issue of Plaid!?!?”

Yes, person I quoted who doesn’t actually exist, I have. I’ve just remembered that I drew an extremely hilarious 16-page failed attempt at a 24-hour-comic a few months ago that I haven’t released yet. I’ve also got a few other comics to add such as the CCS application comic and some short pieces that are currently in the works! This should be the funniest and hopefully most poignant issue to date! Even to the three of you who were able to get their hands on issue 3 haha!

On that note, a sales link to issue 3 should be up eventually, if I’m not too lazy. In the mean time, if you wish to buy any issue of my comics, including my first 24 hour comic and issues 1 thru 3 of Plaid, just email me at josh(dot)m(dot)lees(at)gmail.com!

The Prologue is complete!

Read it now!!

I will be updating every Monday from now until further notice.

My Index Finger Hurts From Lettering

Done lettering and drawing the Prologue of Bello Fortis (Jeez! It’s about time!). Yeah, that’s right, I’m inking all of the last 7 pages tomorrow (probably). All of which should be colored and uploaded by the 7th or so, because I’m taking a break for Christmas (as if I need to take more time off!) Also, the thumbnails for the next chapter are coming along smoothly and I’ll be drawing the pages at about half the size of the prologue to make my work faster. And… because… I don’t do detailed enough drawings for it to make much difference how big I draw them… Also more black on the page will be a good thing. Probably. Anyway, the thumbnails offer some great layouts, and some hints that I may actually know what I’m doing (what? crazy!). Plus, this just in, while the look of lettering with a B5 nib may look cool, it’s super annoying to actually work with a dip pen for me! So… maybe that’ll change in the next chapter as well. We’ll see.

Also, I’m moderating /r/ComicWriting, and hope to soon be moderating /r/MakeComics. So if you’re a fellow Redditor and also write or make comics, you should come check these subs out! …Please?

Apologies

Haven’t posted much lately. Finals approaching, Thanksgiving, and most of all:  Skyrim. I’ll be back to updating again soon!

Buddy the Vampire Slayer

So I heard you guys like bad photoshop pictures.

Gameboy rocks!

We had to make an album cover design in Digital Illustration. So I did this:

Also, go read Bello Fortis, etc etc.

Cooper Cosplay… Or Josh Cosplay?!?

Wanna see how creative I am with designing characters? Here’s a page featuring Cooper from my comic Bello Fortis:

And here’s a pic of me wearing a red ringer shirt, skinny jeans with cuffs, and solid red shoes:

Am I not an original thinker?

Bello Fortis… IN COLOR!!

I’ve got the first 8 pages of Bello Fortis up and they’re in color!! First time getting serious about a comic and actually wanting to color it. The reasons behind it being:  I decided to make this a primarily online comic, so black and white wasn’t necessary; also, there are so many elements in the rules of Amtgard (the LARP game that Bello Fortis is based upon) that require the instant recognition of color, so it would be silly not to use it in the finished pages. Plus, since I’m just using flat colors, it makes it even easier than drawing it and trying to shade with digital tones! Anyway, I’m happy with the pages so far!

T-Minus 1 and a Half Semesters

So… I got into Center for Cartoon Studies! In case ya’lls are wunderin’.

Now, here’s the comic I applied with!
If you’re curious about the meaning behind it:  I had an open heart surgery when I was 11 (and again at 14 ha!), I live in New Mexico (where green chiles roam free!), and I’m an art student alongside many people who don’t seem to give a shit about their art, or just don’t care if they go anywhere (as well as some who care a lot!). Also, Nütrak sounds like Cartoon if you say it backwards (but you already knew that, didn’t you?).
